I swore I wasn’t going to do this again. And here I am, doing it again.

I’ve built several adult-level latch hook rugs in the past few years, and after completing them, I’ve entered them in competitions and sold them at charity auctions.

And after the last one I built – a gigantic sunflower – I believed I was complete. Done. Finito. I donated my leftover yarn to an arts collective in Altamont, and that was it.

So … maybe that WASN’T it.

Because last month, I went to Vermont … and I photographed one of the many covered bridges that populate the state.

Specifically … this one.

This is the Middle Covered Bridge in Woodstock, Vermont. I blogged about capturing this photo. Because, yeah, I did.

And after looking at that bridge photo … and admiring that bridge photo …

And promising myself that I wouldn’t go overboard on creating artwork based on that photo …

I purchased some latch hook rug yarn and a canvas. A big canvas. This will be my largest latch hook rug project yet.

Oh, Lord. I’m back in the water.

Because of course I am. I need something to distract me from the upcoming political and socioeconomic madness of the next four years. I need to insulate myself from the lunacy. I need to protect my mental health and well-being.

But I made a few adjustments for this project.

Instead of ordering the latch hooked rug yarn in batches, I bought all of the necessary strands in one purchase. I also ordered FOUR latch hooks – two with wooden handles, two with plastic handles – so that I could switch grips as necessary. That, and you never know when a latch hook will fall out of your hands and land on the floor, and you don’t want to stop everything, move all your canvases, get out of the chair, find the hook, then re-set everything and restart your momentum.

This is what my first few days of latch hooking looks like. Mind you, this is only the lower left corner of the project.

And after some more time hooking and pulling and hooking and pulling …

I’ve got a larger section completed. This is my progress as of yesterday.

You can see the white curb line and part of the picket fence. No covered bridge yet … that’ll arrive at some point in time.

But yeah … I’m back in another latch hook project.

Here we go again. 😀
